Abstract

In an Europe that now feels more than ever the need to change and open to the world not only from the point of view of values and friendship, but also of trade, the Italy’s EU semester duty presidency should represent «the opportunity to take a big step forward in making a Europe more globalized». The Italian prime minister himself, Matteo Renzi, in his ambitious agenda included as a crucial point the Italian commitment to accelerate the negotiations between the US and the EU for the implementation of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). Proved the enormous relevance of the theme and in occasion of the recent conclusion of the sixth round of negotiations (29 September – 3 October 2014) this report provides a critical analysis of this agreement, which aims to create the largest free trade area in the world. For reasons of completeness and geopolitical overview, it was consider worthwhile to begin with an analysis of the sociopolitical, historical and economic causes, which have motivated the United States and Europe to bring their relationship to a higher level by the lunch of the negotiation for the fulfillment of this Treaty. Preceded by several information about the parties involved in the negotiations, in order to clarify and be as objective as possible about the numbers of the Treaty, main points of view expressed by the major Research Centers and European think-tanks and not are provided, both in favor and against the TTIP. The author then focused on its contents, trying to cover all the subjects negotiate by the Treaty and the potential effects it will have on their respective fields: labor law and social policy, agribusiness and sustainable development, Public Procurement and Intellectual Property, financial services and the Investor-State Dispute Settlement.
